The Promises of God

God’s Pledge to us:  Genesis 9:13

13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

  • Makes promises/covenant between me and the earth. He expects us to believe Him.

God’s promise to Abraham: Romans 4:20: 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

  • It is impossible for God to lie. God hasn’t changed, He will keep His promises

Malachi 3:10
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.

Acts 27:24-25: 24 saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’
25 Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.

God is faithful.  God is true to His word; God’s promises are:

  • Temporal: King Hezekiah’s prayer
  • Spiritual: All spiritual blessings are in Christ- Ephesians 1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
  • Emotional: Peace that passeth understanding – Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
  • Physical: Our physical needs are taken care of – Matthew 6:33 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

God’s promises are built on four pillars: Justice, Grace (He won’t forget promises He made), Truth (He does not change), Power (He has the power to keep His promises).

The Promise of His presence: Hebrews 13:5-6,   Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say:

“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”

The Promise of Escape from Temptation-  1 Corinthians 10:13: 13No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

The Promise of God’s Forgiveness- Psalm 86:5: 5For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

Matthew 4, 1 John 1:6-10 It is about attitude that you don’t want to sin anymore and you try to avoid it.

=>No matter the sin, God’s promise is that He will forgive us.- 2 Corinthians 5:17:  17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Promise of Peace- John 14:27: 27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Promise of Renewal- Isaiah 40:31: 31But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Promise of Christ’s Return-  John 14:1-4: 1”Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
